Ace of Pentacles Reversed Meaning – Smith-Waite Centennial

In today's Card of the Day deep-dive, we take a close look at the meaning behind the Ace of Pentacles tarot card in the reversed position. It's the first time an Ace has appeared in this daily tarot series, and I'm excited!

Aces are some of my favourite cards. They represent the purest, simplest form of their suit's energy or mood. And with our treatment of reversals, the Ace of Pentacles reversed augurs an opportunity to provide some important support.

That's because Pentacles or Coins are the suit of earth, material comforts, and the physical body. We took our first look at the suit with our Seven of Pentacles post last week. And if the Seven of Pentacles was about giving back to the planet, the reversed Ace invites you more broadly to lend a little material support. But let's analyze the Ace of Pentacles' meaning before we get into our collective fortune for the day!

The Ace of Pentacles in the Smith-Waite Centennial tarot deck

Like all Aces in the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot decks, the Ace of Pentacles appears in a grey sky, proferred by a shining hand that emerges like magic out of swirling cloud. But unlike the other Aces, the landscape below is bursting with greenery and plant life. That's because the landscapes in the Ace cards always reflect the broader meaning of the suit. With Pentacles representing the earth in all its abundance, a rich vernal garden scene makes sense.

Importantly, the landscape area also includes a path and an archway through the blossoming hedge. With this symbolism, the Ace of Pentacles is particularly warm and inviting—but it's also a tarot card that really prompts you to take action. The card is inviting you to enter this abundant world, with the archway framing a distant mountain—the symbol of the earth's abundance and the source of precious metals, gemstones, and wealth.

But in the Reversed position, the meaning it isn't as simple as it might seem. Remember, reversals mean you're not the protagonist in this reading. Upside-down, we can read this card not as a hand extending the promise of luxury, physical wellness, and wealth to you but as an invitation for you to extend your own helping hand to someone else.

Making somebody's day

Our daily tarot readings often ask you to turn your thoughts inward and reflect on your relationship with yourself and your role in the world. But today's Ace of Pentacles is a little more actionable, and it's a little simpler, too. This is an invitation to brighten someone else's day with an unexpected act of kindness. And remember, we're talking Pentacles here! So today's opportunity isn't about kind words, moral support, or collaboration. Instead, focus on material ways to help.

Now, you don't have to make a grand gesture. From the little white flowers to the looming mountain, there's scope in the Ace of Coins card for acts of every scale. The important thing to watch for today is an opportunity to contribute to someone else's physical well-being. Even a small act of generosity can make someone's day. And today's tarot card suggests that you'll be crossing paths with someone who really needs your support!

How to bring the Ace of Pentacles' abundance into the day

Here are some examples for how you can follow the Ace of Pentacles' guidance today. Sharing comfort and abundance with others is its own reward! Do you have any ideas of your own?

  • Make dinner for a friend or loved one.
  • Donate to women's shelters or other charities.
  • Check in with your chronically ill or disabled friends and see if they need help with any errands or chores.
  • Donate serviceable items that you don't need.
  • Shovel your neighbour's driveway if you're still getting snow like I am!
  • Tip generously.
